We have been having lots of fun using our imagination and
playing in our Flower Fairy House this week! There are lots of magical fairy wands for us to choose from - what wishes would you create? Post us a comment and let us know. We have been designing repeating pattern flower paths for the fairies to follow! Which flowers would you have chosen? Post us a comment and let us know! As you know, last week George told us about the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, so this week we thought we would read Jasper's Beanstalk - a lovely story written by Mick Inkpen . . . One night after he had planted his bean, Jasper went out and picked up all
the slugs and snails. Joey told us this was "Cause they might eat the beanstalk" Oliver D really enjoyed the next part of the story - "It's funny, cause he mowed it!" We all agreed that Jasper should have been mowing the grass, not his bean! Hope told us "He was waiting for it to grow - the beanstalk - wait another day then it will grow" After we had finished the story, Hope said "He climbed up, he looked up - he saw a big giant, a huge one was up there and he climbed up to see if there are any more giants!" We all really enjoyed this book, we hope you do too! When we had been talking about 'growing', Josh told us that "Fruit grows." We decided to read the story of Oliver's Fruit Salad . . . Then we decided to make our own! We explored a range of fruit including pineapple, banana, kiwi, apple, pear, strawberry and orange. Ollie G told us "I like strawberries, they're my favourite fruit" When holding the pineapple, Archie said "It's heavy and tickly!" After the fruit had been washed and peeled, some of the children helped to carefully slice the strawberries and bananas. Then it was ready to eat - delicious!
Have you got a favourite type of fruit? Post us a comment and let us know - we would love to hear why it is your favourite! Last week the children enjoyed sharing their knowledge of gardens and 'growing'. This week we have been taking a closer look at some plants! Having talked about the different parts, we carefully looked at the roots of our strawberry plant . . . Then Henry brought in a plant from home. He told us "It's a Horse Chestnut tree, it's got a little conker inside the soil and it will grow big!" We took a closer look - can you see the big long root? It's now safely back inside the pot! As well as our strawberry plant, we are also trying to
grow some tomatoes, beans and sunflowers. Are you growing anything at home? Post us a comment and let us know! We have been reading another great story written by Mick Inkpen . . . When Wibbly found his bean, Matilda predicted that he would
"Plant it, get a spade, dig a teeny weeny hole, put the seed in then cover it and then it will grow - but you need water!" Arabella told us "It is growing into a beanstalk so somebody can climb it and there's a castle at the top of it and somebody can go in it!" When asked if the children knew a story about a beanstalk, George excitedly told us "Jack and the Beanstalk! There's a man and he's got the beans and he grows them. It goes higher and higher all the way to the castle. The giant is coming, Jack hides quickly in his cupboard!" Have you got a favourite version of Jack and the Beanstalk? Post us a comment and let us know! Congratulations to Samuel P, Antonia, Matilda and Henry for being awarded our 'Star of the Week'. Well done - a great start to the Summer Term!
This half-term our new Darwin focus is 'STICKABILITY'
we hope the following will give you more of an insight . . . We have been talking about tortoises and although they seem slow and heavy, they always get to where they need to go. If we don't give up and stick at it, we can achieve our dreams too! Here are just a few of the children's hopes and dreams for the future: Archie - "When I'm older I'm going to read books." Matilda - "Be a nurse - if people fall over I might need to get the paramedics! I'll get people better." Noel - "I want to play the guitar. I'm going to learn to play it." We would love to hear about your hopes and dreams for the future, post us a comment and let us know - and remember to show STICKABILITY! This week we have been finding out about some of the traditions of May Day - we had lots of fun dancing round the Maypole! Some of the children brought in flowers from home - here is a selection of some of their wonderful art work . . . Will you be doing anything special over the Bank Holiday weekend?
