After going outside to hunt for different shapes on the school playground, we created our own special 'shape' people! "Triangle, rectangle, circle . . . two circles!" "This is a square" "Eyes, need some eyes!" Here is just a few of our wonderful creations . . . Can you name all the different shapes that we have used?
Perhaps you could design your own 'shape' person - which shapes would you use for the different body parts? Post us a comment and let us know!

This term we are going to be sharing some of the wonderful books written by the author Julia Donaldson. There were a lot of smiles when we showed the children each book in turn, as many recognised them from their own books at home and told us what they could remember from the story . . . "Monkey Puzzle book! I've lost my mum - Butterfly don't joke, my mummy is not slimy, she's soft and nice to cuddle!" We have been reading 'Monkey Puzzle' this week, and here are just a couple of the children's thoughts from when we discussed the story afterwards . . .
Woody - "He lost his mummy and he found a butterfly" (I wonder how he was feeling when he lost his mummy?) "Maybe he be sad?" (Yes, I think he would be feeling very sad, what happened next?) "He found a snake sssssss!" (Which other animals did they find?) "He found a spider" (And what was the spider doing?) "Slipping up his thread, climbing up" (Then what happened?) "He found his mummy and daddy" (How do you think he felt then?) "Happy!" Ethan - "He couldn't find his mum" (So what happened?) "He said no, no, no!" (Why did he say that?) "The animals" (Which animals did he find?) "Caterpillars and a snake and elephant and frog and spider" (What happened at the end?) "He found his mum" (How do you think he felt when he found his mum?) "Much better!" We hope you like this book as much as we did when we read it together. Perhaps you have a favourite animal that Butterfly found? Post us a comment and let us know! This week we have been having lots of fun exploring things that we can do with different parts of our body - including using our hands to throw and catch a ball and our ears to listen to lots of different sounds on a listening walk! Some of the children helped to write labels for different parts of our body . . . Do you have a favourite action rhyme that uses different parts of your body? - post us a comment and let us know! We thought you might like to see all the lovely smiling faces in our portrait gallery! Some of the children chose to paint their portrait, others chose to use either collage
or pastels - which would you have chosen? We would like to extend a very warm welcome to everyone as we embark on the start of the autumn term and a new school year. Due to the current situation, things have been a little different to usual, but despite this we have been delighted to have held our first induction sessions and have been getting to know some of our wonderful new children. Below is just a small selection of some of the activities we have enjoyed together . . . Exploring the bats, balls and hoops Cutting out leaves to go on the trees in our book corner Painting portraits We have had a lovely first few days back - and are now looking forward to our
remaining induction sessions next week! |
