As part of our phonic sessions Baby Croc brings us new sounds to learn, and we help him to blend these sounds to make words. Today we have been decorating our own 'Crocs' so that Baby Croc can have some new friends and they can sound-talk together! You could have a go at sound-talking too!

We have been sharing another lovely book from Julia Donaldson this week . . . The children enjoyed joining in with the repetitive text and afterwards, they reflected on the story: Imogen told us "The Gruffalo's Child went out of the cave" (Where was she going?) "To the big bad mouse" (And what happened?) "It was a big shadow" (Why was there a big shadow?) "Cause it was the mouse" (And what was the shadow of the mouse like?) "He was scary!" Evie said "The Gruffalo's Child went through the woods and got out the cave" (Then what happened?) "She saw the fox" (What did the Gruffalo's Child think when she saw the fox?) "It wasn't the mouse!" (So what did she do?) "She saw the snake" (Where was the snake?) "In some logs" (What happened next?) "The big bad mouse hopped onto the hazel tree" (Why did he do that?) "His shadow made him big and the moon came up and the Gruffalo's Child screamed!" (Why did she scream?) "Cause the shadow of the mouse made the mouse big". We would love to hear about your favourite part of the story! It has also been anti-bullying week this week, to mark our support some of us came to Nursery wearing odd socks today! After talking about different forms of bullying and what we could do about it, we all decided that we would help each other to have kind feet, kind hands and kind words. Keeping to the sock theme, we also shared this great story which celebrates difference. It was very funny but also had a very important message. So remember - Kind Feet, Kind Hands, Kind Words!
This week has been World Nursery Rhyme Week with a focus on a different rhyme each day! As well as having lots of fun singing and acting out the rhymes, we enjoyed some follow-up activities too . . . At the start of the week we had 'The Wheels on the Bus' so we decided to create an advert for a new bus driver! What else could we have included do you think? We did lots of number activities linked to 'Five Little Speckled Frogs' as well as going outside and trying to make the frog land on the lily pad - which we found was much harder than it looked! After singing 'Hickory Dickory Dock' we went outside and played some games of 'What's the Time Mr Wolf?' There were lots of animals included in our version of 'Old Macdonald had a Farm' and as well as some more number related activities, we thought about the different jobs that might need to be done on the farm . . . Which other jobs can you think of that would need doing? Our final rhyme of the week was 'Miss Polly had a Dolly' - and we made the dolly some 'Get Well' cards! Can you think of other occasions when we send a card? We always enjoy sharing lots of rhymes in the Nursery - we hope you do too!
Today we have been helping to raise money for Children in Need . . . It was lots of fun seeing so many 'spots' on the children's clothing as well as on
some of their faces! Thank you for all the donations that you have made - they are greatly appreciated.
This week we have also been finding out about Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights . . .
The children loved joining in with this song . . . They have also been busy designing . . .
Some of the children helped to create a Rangoli pattern . . .
Happy Diwali! Having talked about the 'night time' we looked at Van Gogh's Starry Night before creating our own collaborative interpretation . . . It is displayed in the corridor for everyone to see. We think it looks great, we hope you do too! We have been reading another lovely book written by Julia Donaldson . . . Afterwards, Ethan told us "The Night Monkey was a bit tired and the Morning Monkey was tired too". When asked why they were tired he replied "Because they had a busy day and they go on a big adventure". Asked about their adventure, Ethan continued "They heard lots and lots of things and they were eating bananas and they were on trees". Luca then asked us "Why is the dark one Day Monkey and the light one Night Monkey?" A great question Luca, well done! We hope you get the chance to read this wonderful story too. It has been lovely to welcome everyone back after the half-term break. Congratulations to Max and Emily for having a particularly good week and being awarded 'Star of the Week' Well done!
Today we have been finding out about why some people wear a poppy at this time of year. Afterwards we created our own poppy pictures . . .
We watched the following animation . . . At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. After sharing a number rhyme about five little rockets, we looked at some of the stars that were in the night sky where the fireworks had gone to. As part of an adult led activity, we then investigated different ways of printing five stars using two different colours . . . Which other combinations could we have used?
Perhaps you could try this at home and let us know! Today we have been talking about keeping safe around bonfires and fireworks. We watched some video clips of Fireman Sam and he told us how important it was that children under five should not be given a sparkler. We discussed all the important safety rules before going outside and observing the lovely sparkles from a sparkler that one of the adults was holding for us at a very safe distance. After going back inside we created some lovely firework scenes using an activity on the computer . . . Emily Marta Abbie We hope that you enjoy any celebrations that you may be having tonight, but please take care and stay safe.
This week we have read another great book from Julia Donaldson . . . After sharing the story together we thought about who we would like to make room
for if we had our own magical broomstick, and where we would like to go . . . Sadie told us that she would take "My brothers - cause I like them!" and that she would like to go "In the clouds". Ida said that she would make room for "My sister - because her pretty" and that they would go "To a caravan" and that the caravan would be "At the countryside!". Later on in the day we had lots of fun creating magical potions and spells for our cauldron! |
