The children were very excited to be able to tell their mums how special
they are during our Mothering Sunday Assemblies held during the week. Some of them showed their lovely portraits that they had done, but we thought you would like to be able to see them too, so take a look and enjoy . . . Enjoy your special day together! Congratulations to Zachary and Reuben for being awarded our 'Star of the Week'. Well done both of you! As we have been talking a lot about colours linked to the festival of Holi, we thought that this would be an ideal choice of book from our focus author Mick Inkpen . . . Can you name all the different colours of the balloons? Wibbly Pig is very proud of all of his balloons - but the teddy bear
one is his favourite! This lovely book tells the story of how Wibbly gradually loses his balloons as his different friends arrive and want to have one too. Antonia told us "Tiny's too little - he can't reach the balloon!" The children enjoyed counting down as each balloon was taken, then Big Pig's sister arrives and grabs the pink one that she wants, but at the same time lets the others go! Josh told us "The balloons float away. They were left in the park - the Pigs, Wibbly Pig and the Little Pig" It looked as though there might be a sad ending but then Eva-Mae excitedly told us "I can see the teddy bear balloon!" Everyone was relieved to see it in the corner of the page, floating past the moon! Can you guess what happened next? Post us a comment and let us know!
We have been having lots of fun today finding out about the Hindu festival of Holi.
This celebrates the arrival of spring flowers and when the main crops are almost ready for the spring harvest. As part of the celebrations, people throw brightly coloured powder and water at each other!
It was lots of fun choosing and 'throwing' our favourite coloured powder
paint onto our spring flowers! Earlier in the week, the children explored the 'Splash' activity on the computer for their collaborative group 'Colour Creations' . . .
Which colours would you have chosen to use?
Watch the following video clips to find out more about Holi . . .
We hope you have had a 'colourful' day! We have talked about the seasons and the changes we have observed in our gardens and the school grounds. We then carefully looked for signs of Spring in our Forest School area. We found flowers; daffodils, celandines and some bluebell shoots. We found trees with bursting leaf buds and cherry blossom. The birds were singing cheerfully and we saw ladybirds, butterflies and busy bees too! Are there any other signs of Spring that you have seen?
This week we have been enjoying another book written by our focus author Mick Inkpen . . . Everyone agreed that Wibbly's bear would be very good at giving hugs, but as
we read the story we found out that there were lots of things he couldn't do! Hope told us "He didn't eat his ice cream, he didn't know how to sit on a potty, he didn't know how to brush his teeth!" Ollie G remembered "The bear won't eat peas with a spoon because he eats it with his paws!" Charlie W told us "He couldn't put his socks on very well and he draw'd on the wall!" Rhys was very positive about Wibbly's bear however, and told us "He was so soft! He spins Wibbly Pig around" This is a delightful story - we would love to hear about your favourite part! After we had eaten our pancakes we used the left-over oranges and lemons to print with, some of the children created their own repeating pattern . . . "Two lemons, two oranges, two lemons, two oranges,
two lemons, two oranges!" What would come next? How would you create your repeating pattern? Post us a comment and let us know! This week we have been thinking a lot about pancakes! We started off with a pancake rhyme - and some numbered pancakes . . . Can you see which numbers are missing? After we had sequenced our pancakes correctly, we found out how many would be left in the pan each time after another one was eaten! Some of the children had a go at recording this on their clipboard, Anabella chose to use a combination of 'lines' and 'numerals' for her recording . . . Can you see which numbers were represented by both lines and numerals? We hope you enjoyed your pancakes on Tuesday - post us a comment and
let us know if you have got a favourite topping! Congratulations to Theo, Jazmin and Hope for being awarded our 'Star of the Week'. Well done all of you! The children have all enjoyed our choice of Mick Inkpen story for this week . . . This is a lovely book and tells the story of how Kipper is searching for a better place to sleep. When Kipper tried to stand on one leg like the ducks he had seen, he could only wobble! Joey told us "He couldn't stand on his foot, he needs to learn to do it. I can do it already!" Kipper also tried to build a nest of sticks, but it wasn't very good! Eva-Mae told us this was "Cause he's got three sticks" She went on to tell us that he would need "A lot of sticks!" Towards the end of the story, Kipper found a nice dark hole, after we had finished the book, Henry told us "I liked when the badger came out of the hole. It was funny!" We won't spoil the ending for you, but we are sure that you will enjoy this story just as much as we did!
This half-term we have a new Darwin focus - Growthability!
We hope that the following will give you an insight into what it is all about!
The weather was beautiful on Tuesday! We enjoyed a walk in the sunshine to
take a closer look at the lovely daffodils growing on the school field . . .
"They're beautiful!"
When we got back to the Nursery, Maddie told us "They were very golden and
yellow. They were very pretty!" We were inspired to do some daffodil art work . . .
Can you see the different types of media that we have used?
Have you got any daffodils growing in your garden? Do you have a favourite variety? Post us a comment and let us know!
Daffodils are also a very important flower in Wales, and we have been finding out about
St David's Day! We hope that you have enjoyed your day today - let us know how you celebrated! |
