This week we have been sharing a number rhyme about 'Five Autumn Leaves'. We went out into our sensory garden and hunted for some laminated leaves with numerals on to create another new number line! We also used some of the autumn leaves that had fallen from the trees to print with, creating a repeating pattern . . . Using an activity on the computer we created similar repeating patterns . . . Everyone was very excited when the little brown mouse came back to visit - and we helped him to find his way home to the deep, dark wood by selecting from some laminated leaves to create a repeating pattern leaf path! The children have also been reflecting on their outdoor autumnal experiences . . . Arthur - "The leaves were floating off the trees onto the floor" Erin - "The leaves were red and big and they were falling from the trees" Eddie - "I ran down the hill in the leaves and it made a crunchy sound!" Perhaps you could enjoy some lovely autumn walks during the half term holiday!

We have been reading the story of 'The Gruffalo' and the little brown mouse came to visit with some of his autumn treasures! We have been taking a closer look at some of them, can you work out which ones the children were talking about from their descriptions? Conor - "It looks all spiky . . . squishy, this side is all squishy" Ellie - "Spiky, look at all the spikes!" Emily - "It twirls, it's red, it's really smooth" Dylan - "It's hard!" Which descriptive words would you have used? This week during our outdoor sessions we have been looking for signs of autumn. It was exciting watching the leaves falling from the trees in front of us as we walked along to the field - and then lots of fun dancing in them! We enjoyed a little rest afterwards . . . Which different signs of autumn have you noticed recently? Post us a comment and let us know! Each day when we have snack time, we enjoy some healthy carrots, apples, pears or bananas. This week we went for a walk up to the school vegetable garden to see if we could find any produce that hadn't already been 'harvested'. As well as finding some food that was still growing, we also found some laminated fruit and vegetables that had numerals on! Can you see the top of the tiny carrot that was growing next to our giant strawberry? When we returned to the Nursery with our laminated fruit and vegetables, we used them to create our new number line - as well as helping us to recognise our numerals it looks very tasty!
Inspired by the story of 'The Little Red Hen' and our bread making, we have created our own little Bakery . . . The children have been having fun taking it in turns to be the Baker or the customer - what do you think you would like to buy? After sharing different versions of the story, we baked some bread just like the Little Red Hen had done, discussing the changes that were taking place at each stage . . . After the rolls had baked in the oven, it was time to let them cool and then they were
ready to take home to eat - mmm, delicious! Throughout the week we have been sharing different versions of the traditional story of 'The Little Red Hen'. The children enjoyed choosing their favourite character - particularly when we went outside to re-enact the story! Which would your favourite character have been?
How might the story have changed if the animals had decided to help the Little Red Hen from the beginning? As it was 'Bike to School' week, we thought it would be fun to spend some more time exploring our own Early Years Foundation Stage bikes . . . Everyone was encouraged to be active and feel more energised on their way to Nursery,
as well as helping the environment by replacing a car journey, improving local air quality and reducing congestion. Good luck to everyone that let Sustrans know that their family were cycling or scooting to school to be in with the chance of winning a Frog bike! |
