This week we have been finding out about the festival of 'Holi' which is celebrated by Hindus to welcome the start of spring every year. Holi is also called the 'Festival of Colours' and part of the celebrations include covering friends and family in brightly coloured powder and water!
Some of the children had a go at an activity called 'Splash' on the computer where they selected from a range of different colours to 'splash' them on the page!
We have all had lots of fun finding out about Holi - watch the video clips below to find out more:
We also watched a vibrant Bollywood-style dance performed for Holi - and loved trying to join in with all the different moves afterwards!

We have been thinking about some of the changes that are taking place now that it is spring time - we went for a walk in the school grounds to see what we could find . . . Now we are hoping for lots of lovely warm spring sunshine too!
On Friday we had lots of fun for Comic Relief and we were all able to 'Share A Smile' . . . If you would like to make a donation to Comic Relief you can use the link to our school fundraising page:
https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/greenfields-primary-school-shrewsbury1 Thank you! This week we have been reading 'Wibbly Pig has 10 Balloons' by Mick Inkpen . . . Afterwards we went for our own little adventure to hunt for some more balloons - but these ones had numbers on them too!
Maybe you could create your own number / balloon hunt in your house or garden at home and have lots of fun hunting for them like we did!
St Patrick's Day (March 17th) is celebrated by millions of people around the world every year.
The patron saint of Ireland, St Patrick is traditionally associated with the shamrock, a type of clover, and he is often pictured holding one. The children have been finding out about some of the celebrations that would usually take place - they enjoyed watching the following video clips: Afterwards they explored some marble rolling using different shades of green paint on their shamrocks . . .
If you were celebrating St Patrick's Day we hope you had a wonderful time - we would love to
hear what you did, post us a comment and let us know! Once again we have found ourselves in a situation beyond our control where we might not be able to celebrate today in the way that we would perhaps have done in more 'normal' times. Despite this, we wanted to try and make sure that we were able to let our mums know how special they are with delightful daffodil cards . . . And pretty portraits of their mum . . . As well as the above, the children also took home a daffodil and we sent everyone a special video message!
Whatever your plans are for today and however you choose to celebrate, we hope that you have a wonderful time together - stay safe and take care everyone. This week it has been lovely to welcome back our remaining children who due to the current situation we haven't been able to see for a while! Everyone has settled back in so well and it has been wonderful to see old friendships renewed and so many happy smiling faces - a couple of examples of which can be seen in the photographs above!
Thank you to all our parents for helping to make the transition back to Nursery so smooth for all those concerned and for your continued support - we really do appreciate it. Thursday 4th March was World Book Day and as part of our celebrations the children brought in a potato to decorate, selecting from a wide range of media to create a story character from their favourite book - take a look at some of the results . . .
In this Mick Inkpen story, Kipper and Tiger go camping, taking Tiger's brand-new torch and Kipper's storybook - but will there be any monsters around? After sharing the story together, Ida told us "There was a growling sound and they saw some yellow eyes and they were scared so they went back inside then Kipper said 'look behind you' cause there was a shadow shaped like a snail and Kipper did sneak outside, then there was a tiny little snail then Tiger did go out of the quilt and Kipper said 'Tiger it's not a monster after all!" We had fun making some of our own shadows - you could have a go too, and perhaps share some favourite story books by torchlight!
This week we have been finding out about St David's Day.
St David is the patron saint of Wales and on this day (1st March), a daffodil is traditionally worn as it is the national flower of Wales. Watch the video clips to find out more . . . We went for a walk to look at some of the beautiful daffodils that we have in our own school grounds . . . Have you got any daffodils growing in your garden? There are lots of different varieties! |
