This week we have been busy preparing for our Nativity!
The children have been trying hard to remember all of their words and the order in which they need to go on and off the stage! Thank you to everyone that has brought in the required costumes - please can the remaining few be brought in on Monday so that we can add the finishing touches - thank you. Congratulations to Zachary, Archie and Leo for being awarded 'Star of the Week' Well done to all of you! As we have been talking recently about the night sky and how bright and beautiful the fireworks are when they light it up, we thought that this would be a good choice for our next Julia Donaldson book . . . In this lovely story, we find out that Night Monkey and Day Monkey's worlds are as different as . . . night and day! What one monkey fears, the other one loves. The children certainly loved joining in with the repetitive text of 'Don't be daft'! After we had shared the story together, Matilda told us "The monkey said 'You can't catch me'!" Harriet had been looking carefully at the illustrations - "The snake was there, on the tree" Leah liked the part when the monkeys were eating bananas! Have you read this great book yet? We would love to hear about your favourite part. Post us a comment and let us know! We have had lots of fun in Nursery today as the children came dressed in their spots, wore Children in Need clothing or brought a bear to school - all to help raise money for this great cause. Thank you to everyone that made a donation!
Congratulations to Charlie J, Jazmin and Joey for being awarded our 'Star of the Week' Well done everyone! We have had a few busy Wellie Wednesday sessions. We have made muddy hedgehogs using materials from the woodland area. We mixed mud for the body before searching for seed heads, leaf stalks and small twigs to create hedgehog spines. We found small stones and seeds to use as the eyes or tip of the nose. We have also had fun hunting for numbered fireworks. We tried identifying the numbers and sorting them into the correct numerical order. We discussed which numbers were the biggest and which numbers were the smallest. Take a look a some the photographs of us in our Forest School area.
No doubt many of you will recognise this delightful book from Julia Donaldson . . . We have certainly enjoyed sharing it!
Sam told us "There was a snake - the Gruffalo made the snake run away because he was scary!" Reuben provided a great description of the Gruffalo: "The Gruffalo had a green boil on his nose. The Gruffalo had purple prickles on his back. The Gruffalo had dark brown hair on his head" Rhys told us "The Gruffalo was scared because the mouse's tummy rumbled and he said 'I want Gruffalo crumble' and he runned away!" Do you have a favourite character in the story? We would love to hear who it is and why they are your favourite. Post us a comment and let us know! Congratulations to Theo, Rhys and Maddie for being awarded our 'Star of the Week' Well done everyone!
We have been talking to the children about the poppies that they have seen people wearing recently and together we watched an animation on CBeebies which shows war as experienced by the animal inhabitants of a WW1 battlefield.
We thought you might like to watch it too . . . The children have created their own collaborative poppy field, printing the petals with bottle tops, adding a fingerprint middle and selecting from a range of media for their stem. We think they look wonderful, let us know what you think! At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.
This week we have been introducing our new Darwin Value for the next half-term - Selfhelpability!
We hope the following will help to give you more of an insight . . . Diwali, the festival of lights, is one of the most important festivals in the Hindu religious calendar and marks the end of the Hindu year. To find out more about Diwali, we watched some video clips on CBeebies - click on the photo below and you will be able to watch them too! Afterwards we looked at some traditional Indian clothes - everyone agreed that they were beautiful! If you or any of your friends or family have celebrated Diwali, we would love to hear what you did. Post us a comment and let us know! We have been finding out how to keep safe on Bonfire Night. After watching a firework safety video featuring Fireman Sam, we went outside onto the field for a very special treat! Children UNDER FIVE should NEVER be given sparklers to hold themselves, but we ensured that everyone was at a safe distance to watch as one of the adults held the sparkler in their gloved hand, and afterwards, put the finished sparkler in a bucket of water. As you can see, the children were very excited! We then used coloured streamers to represent the flames of a bonfire and created our own little dance! Some of the children shared their experiences of seeing and hearing fireworks at the week end, here are just a couple: "We went to a firework show, me and daddy had to move cause there was really loud fireworks and there was one that went really high and nearly came down to me and daddy!" (Sam) "At the night time I saw fireworks. They were in the sky and we went to go out to see them. We couldn't see them cause the tree was in the way!" (Anabella) When we went back into Nursery, we selected from a range of colours to make our own firework pictures! If you are having your own bonfire party, or visiting one with family and friends, remind everyone to stand well back and remember to ensure that children are
supervised at all times. We hope that you all enjoy a SAFE and happy Bonfire Night! |
