We have been finding out how to keep safe on Bonfire Night. After watching a firework safety video featuring Fireman Sam, we went outside onto the field for a very special treat! Children UNDER FIVE should NEVER be given sparklers to hold themselves, but we ensured that everyone was at a safe distance to watch as one of the adults held the sparkler in their gloved hand, and afterwards, put the finished sparkler in a bucket of water. As you can see, the children were very excited! We then used coloured streamers to represent the flames of a bonfire and created our own little dance! Some of the children shared their experiences of seeing and hearing fireworks at the week end, here are just a couple: "We went to a firework show, me and daddy had to move cause there was really loud fireworks and there was one that went really high and nearly came down to me and daddy!" (Sam) "At the night time I saw fireworks. They were in the sky and we went to go out to see them. We couldn't see them cause the tree was in the way!" (Anabella) When we went back into Nursery, we selected from a range of colours to make our own firework pictures! If you are having your own bonfire party, or visiting one with family and friends, remind everyone to stand well back and remember to ensure that children are
supervised at all times. We hope that you all enjoy a SAFE and happy Bonfire Night!
