This week we have been sharing another lovely book from our focus author Julia Donaldson . . . One wild and windy night the Gruffalo's Child ignores her father's warning and tiptoes out into the snow. After all, the Big Bad Mouse doesn't really exist . . . does he? Conor said "I think his shadow is big, but he is small". When asked why the Gruffalo's Child might have 'tiptoed' out of the cave, he suggested "So that nothing heard her". Later in the story, when talking about the mouse, Conor told us "They're not even really fast because they might fall over their tail because it's really long!" When recalling how the Gruffalo had described the Big Bad Mouse, Eddie said "Terrible pools of fire" (for his eyes). He went on to tell us "The Gruffalo's Child was running away" and then added "Jumped off a log" and when asked why she had done this Eddie replied "Because she's scared". We talked about what she might have been scared of and Eddie told us "The Big Bad Mouse!" After sharing the book together, the children loved meeting the Gruffalo's Child!
We would love to hear what your favourite part of the story was - post us a comment and let us know!

There were lots of spots and pyjamas on Friday as children (and staff) came to school dressed to support Children in Need! For one of our activities we took turns to roll the dice and colour in the corresponding
'spot' on Pudsey Bear's bandana - it was exciting seeing who was going to be the first in each group to be able to colour them all in! On Monday the children were invited to bring in six celebration cup cakes that they had made and decorated at home to enter the Severn Bridges Star Baker competition. The judges selected a 'Star Baker' from each class - in Little Conkers Nursery Class it was
these many-eyed monsters that were the winning entry - congratulations! At the end of the day all the cupcakes were available to buy with the money raised going to the charities chosen by the MAT Parliament, well done to everyone that took part and thank you for your generous donations. On Monday it was Odd Socks Day which is part of Anti-Bullying Week - helping to send out the important message that we are all unique and that everyone should be allowed to be themselves free from bullying. As well as wearing our odd socks, we listened to the great song 'One Kind Word' which has been recorded especially for Anti-Bullying Week. We also watched a virtual assembly - 'United Against Bullying'. Thank you to everyone that showed their support and wore odd socks - they looked great! We have been sharing another lovely book from our focus author for the term - Julia Donaldson Night Monkey and Day Monkey's worlds are as different as . . .
night and day! What one fears, the other loves. But in learning about each other's opposite worlds, they also learn to be the best of friends. After we had discussed the story, some of the children shared their own experiences of night time and talked about what they might see: Erin - "The stars and the moon" Fern - "I love the night time because the animals come out. The stars were twinkling, the moon . . . it's pretty because it's like a banana!" What do you like about the night time? We would love to hear from you - post us a comment and let us know! This week we have been finding out about why some people wear poppies at this time of year. The children then created their own poppy picture using an extract from the poem 'In Flanders Fields' as a background. They used half an apple to print the poppy heads followed by using one type of brush to add the stems and grass and a different type of brush to complete the middle of each poppy. Lest We Forget
Today we have been finding out about firework safety and have created a collaborative bonfire and firework scene . . . During the afternoon we went outside to have a 'firework fitness' session! If you are going out to celebrate Bonfire Night, please take care and stay safe . . .
This week we have been finding out about Diwali, the Festival of Lights.
As part of our activities the children had a go at designing some mehndi patterns . . .
We also did some Diwali dancing - which was lots of fun!
Everyone enjoyed the following song . . . Happy Diwali! |
