The children have really enjoyed sharing this funny story - which has been our next book written by Julia Donaldson . . . When she first saw the front cover, Hope exclaimed "A ghost story!" Towards the end, she predicted that the feather would "Tickle her nose!" We had lots of fun joining in with the repetitive text, and Reuben commented "Wake up from your dream and scream - that rhymes!" Josh told us "The bear was a little bit scared" He said this was "Because he doesn't like the ghost!" When we got to the end of the story, Maddie told us "I liked it - cause it was funny" Then later in the session, she came over and said "That story was awesome!" Maddie clearly enjoyed the story and we hope that you do too! When we came back to Nursery after our walk around the field, we talked about the different colour of the leaves that we had seen and explored some paint mixing to create the different shades.
It was lots of fun printing our own leaves! Do you have a favourite Autumnal colour? Post us a comment and let us know! We returned to the field again this week and had lots of fun listening to, then recreating, the sounds of the leaves falling from the trees and 'crunching' beneath our feet! Can you name the different percussion instruments that we were using?
Which words would you use to describe the sounds of the leaves? Post us a comment and let us know! Congratulations to Noah, Antonia, Charlie W and Arabella for being awarded our 'Star of the Week' Well done everyone! We have been creating repeating leaf patterns to help Puppet John find his way back from the field! Here are just a couple of examples . . . Perhaps you could collect some leaves from your garden and create your own repeating patterns! How would you describe the leaves that you have used?
We have been thinking about some of the changes that we have noticed in the trees recently. This is what one of the children told us . . . "The trees are wobbling - because the wind is blowing them" "When the leaves fall down, it's gonna be Winter" "We're kicking the leaves and they're crunching!" "Leaves fall down off the tree and sway" What have you noticed about the trees at home or at school?
Post us a comment and let us know! This week we have been enjoying another great story written by our focus author . . . When he saw the book, Sam told us "I have the 'Room on the Broom' game at my mummy's - you have to get into the middle and then when you are in the middle you've won! You have to land on all the spaces, past the dragon to get to the middle first." Rhys told us "The dragon breathed fire at the witch's broom and she lives in a tent with her broomstick and she looses her bow and her hat!" In response to this, Eva-Mae said "I've got a bow for my dog Bella, she's brown" and after listening to the story, Eva-Mae decided "It was a little bit scary!" Have you read this great story before?
We would love to hear about your favourite part, post us a comment and let us know! We have really enjoyed our first 'Wellie Wednesday' sessions. We have been on a trail and found all the characters in the story of the Gingerbread Man. We have collected leaves, sticks, grass, soil and water to make some delicious Autumn soup! We have had great fun exploring our Forest School area. Take a look at some of the things we've been doing. We are really looking forward to our next sessions! It has been a very special week in Nursery . . . We have celebrated our first two birthdays! We would love to hear how you celebrated your last birthday, post us a comment and let us know! As we had so much fun baking our bread, we decided to set up our own Red Hen's Bakery! What do you think you would like to buy? Post us a comment and let us know! This week we have been baking bread just like the Little Red Hen! As we mixed the ingredients, Josh told us "It smells like porridge!" He also knew that we were "Making it into a dough" After we had left them in a warm place to rise, we baked our rolls in the oven - they smelled delicious! The best part was when we got to eat them! Jamie-Leigh said "It tastes yummy!" and Samuel asked "Can we have another one?" Perhaps you could have a go at baking some bread too - we would love to hear how you get on! There are lots of different versions of this well-known traditional tale - we have been sharing some of them this week! We re-told the story using stick puppets, and then we became the characters!
Little Red Hen's friends didn't help her with all the jobs that needed to be done before the bread was ready to eat - so Little Red Hen decided not to let them help her to eat the bread! We hope that you are all good friends and help each other - post us a comment and let us know what you have done to be helpful! This week we have been having fun 'harvesting' our carrots! The children took turns to pick from a selection of a laminated carrots, count the number of spots on it and then 'harvest' the same amount of 'real' carrots from the trough! Some of the children were also able to locate the matching numeral. Which of the numerals do you recognise? |
