As you know, at the end of April each group planted one potato in our big pot and since then we have enjoyed watching the changes taking place as the new growth began to appear. As there are only a couple of days left until the end of term, we decided to harvest our crop! After giving them a good clean, we cooked and tasted our wonderful produce . . . Between them, the children decided that they were 'yummy', 'delicious' and gave them the 'thumbs up'!

After acting out our number rhyme about 'five little fish' , we took turns to throw the 'fish' to try and get it into the shark's mouth to feed him with his tea! Everyone cheered when someone managed to get their 'fish' into the shark's mouth, after we had finished, the shark wasn't hungry any more and all the other fish were safe in the sea! Having read the lovely story of 'Smiley Shark', we sang a number rhyme about five little fish that were swimming in the sea - then along came a hungry shark and eat one for his tea! Everyone had lots of fun helping to act out the number rhyme and work out how many fish would be left each time! After sharing the story together, we thought about some different words that we could use to describe Smiley Shark. This is what we came up with . . . Which words would you have used to describe him? We would love to hear from you, let us know! This week we shared the lovely story of 'Smiley Shark' and as we looked at the front cover, Charlie exclaimed "That's a massive smile!". Part way through the story a starfish cartwheeled off across the ocean floor - Charlie told us it was because "She's scared" and when asked why she might be scared, he replied "Cause the shark might eat her!". We then thought about how the shark would feel when he saw her cartwheeling away and Charlie said "Sad . . . cause no one wants to play with him" When we got to the part where the fisherman dropped his net in fright, Woody told us "The fish will fall out of the net" - when asked what they would do, she replied "They'll be safe!". We then thought about what would happen next and she suggested "Play with the shark?". After finishing the book, we reflected back on the story, Woody said "The fish were not going to play with the shark". When asked why they didn't want to play, she told us "Because they thought the shark was going to eat the fish!" We certainly enjoyed this great story - if you get a chance to read it, we're sure that you will love it too! The weather was kind as we all enjoyed our Nursery sports afternoon together! To link in with our recent focus on plant growth, we had a 'garden' theme for each of our events. The first race was 'getting ready for the garden' where we collected our binoculars for some bird watching, then a hat to protect us from the sun, and finally a water bottle to keep us hydrated! Now we were ready to go on a 'journey through the garden' . . . For the next race we had to run and collect each seed packet in turn, bringing it back to the plant pot before running to the finish line ready to plant them all! Once we arrived over the finish line it was time to stand on the podium for a round of applause: The next day we received our special certificate as a record of our achievement in each race: We were so proud of all the children, especially as they were so supportive of one another as they were racing - we hope that they all enjoyed their first Sports Day at Greenfields! This week we helped to make a very special birthday card for a local resident. Some of us drew the pictures for the front and everyone signed their name inside. We all thought that 100 was a wonderful age to reach and hope that she had a fantastic day! |
