This week we have been finding out about Diwali, the festival of lights. This is one
of the most important festivals in the Hindu religious calendar and marks the end of the Hindu year.
We tried on some traditional Indian costume - it was very different to
the school uniform that we usually wear!
Mehndi is made from herbs and is used to draw patterns on the skin - we created some of our own designs!
Rangoli patterns are usually made with coloured powders or with flowers
and are put at the entrance to doorways.
We designed a collaborative one together with our magnetic shapes, trying
to make sure that we kept it symmetrical!
We all enjoyed dancing along to this great song about Diwali - we hope you enjoy it too!

This week we went into the school hall for a special
Harvest Festival Service with the Reverend James. Afterwards we thought about some of the food that we would like to say 'thank you' for. Do you have some favourite fruit and vegetables too? Below are some of the items kindly brought into school and donated for the Barnabas food bank in Coleham. Thank you all for your generosity. We have been thinking about some of the things that make us happy, here is just a small selection . . . Noah - "When I bounce up and down" Lucy - "Playing!" Sophia - "When I see all my friends" Bessie - "Mummy laughing!" Sharing these lovely ideas made us feel happy too! We would love to hear what makes you feel happy - post us a comment and let us know! Congratulations to Rosie, Sophia, Henry and Connie for being awarded our 'Star of the Week'. Well done all of you! Something very exciting happened in Nursery . . . we found some dinosaur eggs! "It's cold and wet" "It's ice, it's a bit slippy" "There's a dinosaur" (Ted) "It's cold" "Heavy" "It's got ice on it and water" (Bradley) "It's going to crack and the dino will come out!" (Jacob) We returned to look at the eggs later in the day to see if there had been any changes . . . "It's cracked" "A Triceratops!" "He's out here" (Bella) "He's out now" "It's smaller" (the egg) "There's water from the egg" (Harrison) What do you think had happened to the eggs when we went back into Nursery the following day? We have been having fun matching shapes onto our dinosaur pictures! How many triangles can you see? Which shape has been used for the neck? Can you find a shape without any corners? Which shape has been used for the tail? How many squares are there? Can you name the shape that has six sides? You could have a go at creating your own 'shape dinosaurs' - which shapes would you include? |
