As we have been enjoying the action rhyme 'Dingle Dangle Scarecrow' we thought this story would be a good choice for our next Julia Donaldson book . . . After we had shared the story together, the children talked about what they had enjoyed, here are just a couple of their responses: Hope - "A wedding book! Them got married, Harry and Betty, Betty and Harry! They need to get something for their wedding - feathers dress and flowers, pink flowers" Shelby - "I like flowers, I have flowers in my house" As we looked through some of the pages again to see the part where Harry was taking the flowers to Betty, Shelby told us he was "Taking them, to knock on the door and give them the lady!" We all agreed that this certainly was 'the wedding that no one will ever forget'! What was your favourite part of the story? Post us a comment and let us know. We have been up to our school vegetable garden to hunt for fruit and vegetables to create our new number line! Can you identify the numerals that are in each of the photographs? Which number would have been between the two of them when we sequenced them on our number line? Which other fruit and vegetables do you think we might have found? Each term we are going to focus on a different author with the children. We have chosen Julia Donaldson for this term and our first book has been Monkey Puzzle. Here are just a few of the quotes from some of the children after they had listened to the story . . . Noel - "I liked bat cause he was black and he hangs upside down" Anabella - "I liked the snake cause it was slithery" George - "My best bit was the mum and dad at the end cause the monkey loved them!" We would love to hear about your favourite part of the story - post us a comment and let us know! Can you work out which parts of the body from the rhyme are missing from the photograph? Next time you are in the Nursery, look at the rest of the display and see if you were right! As part of our focus on 'Changeability' Harry Hedgehog came to meet us! We talked about how we were feeling when we first came to Nursery and what it was like trying to get used to being somewhere new. All of us want to ensure that the Nursery is a safe and happy place to be for everyone. After sharing some ideas of how we could do this, we put together our 'Harry Hedgehog Nursery Charter' which we are going to follow. Harry is very excited and now he wants to spend some more time in Nursery! What do you think you could do to ensure that you and your friends are safe and happy?
Each half term the school focuses on a different value - we are starting off the new academic year with 'Changeability'.
We hope the following will provide you with a useful insight into what it is all about! We have been talking to the children about how important it is to wash our hands! Following a discussion about when and why this is needed, we all had a practise and are going to help each other to remember the sequence of 'wet, soap, rinse and dry'! Can you think of all the different times that you would need to wash your hands? As well as getting to know each other during their Induction Day, the children also had fun exploring and getting to know our outdoor environment!
We all had a wonderful time during the first week of term getting to know each other! A different group of children joined us each day and during this time they selected from a range of media to create their own self portraits. These are now hanging proudly in our gallery! |
