This week we have been sharing another lovely story written by Mick Inkpen . . . Arnold had a new toy baby owl which he proudly showed to Kipper who then
decided to find out the correct names for a variety of baby animals, using the computer to help him. After hearing the story, the children shared their favourite part . . . Maddie - "I liked the baby frog because he was little and called a froglet" Rhys - "I liked the hoglet because he rolls into a ball!" During a visit to the park, Arnold had thrown Small Grey Fluffy Owl into the pond to see if he would like to paddle with the ducks! After rescuing him, Kipper sat on the swing and spun him around to dry him out. Arabella liked this part of the story and told us "Kipper went on the swing and was holding Fluffy Grey Owl to dry". Back at home, Arnold and Kipper drew pictures of all the baby animals and wrote the names underneath - have you got a favourite baby animal? Post us a comment and let us know! We had great fun outside with the ball today . . . In three teams we took turns to first roll the ball, then throw it and finally kick it - each time trying to hit the Easter egg target. We scored one point for a 'hit' and two points if we managed to knock it over! Everyone tried their best and at the end we added up each teams score to find the winner. Which do you think was easier - rolling, throwing or kicking the ball? We had lots of fun hunting for the eggs that had been hidden by the Easter Bunny, so we thought this would be an ideal choice for our next Mick Inkpen book . . . Instead of eggs that needed hiding, it was a little squeaky mouse!
The story had started with him running across the page and hiding inside the 'foldy bit' in the middle of the book, he didn't want the cat to find him. Kipper decided to help and fetched his toybox for the little squeaky mouse to hide in. Next he tried hiding him on top of his head - the little squeaky mouse folded itself in Kipper's ears! George told us "My favourite bit was when Kipper was hiding the mouse from the cat" Kipper was very worried when the cat spotted the little mouse and so he ran with him all the way to Big Hill. Noel said "Kipper thought the cat wanted to gobble up the mouse but they were playing hide-and-seek!" Kipper joined in with their game at the end of the story and squeezed himself into the foldy bit in the middle of the book - but he was much bigger than the little squeaky mouse! Matilda told us "I liked when Kipper went in the fold bit" Do you like playing hide-and-seek? Do you prefer the 'hiding' or the 'seeking'? Post us a comment and let us know! This week we have been reflecting back on some of the recent celebrations that we have shared together, and have started to think about Easter time! Charlie J told us "The Easter Bunny comes out. He hides eggs, we find them!" Zachary said "The eggs are made of chocolate! The Easter Bunny has a basket to have the eggs in so he doesn't have to carry loads of things" Rhys added "The Easter Bunny works at the chocolate factory. The Easter Bunny makes the chocolate. The Easter Bunny hides the chocolate eggs and chocolate rabbits." We had our own little 'number' egg hunt! Some of the eggs had domino spots on for the children to count. And some of the eggs had numerals on . . . Once we had found all the eggs the children worked together to sequence them and create an egg number line! Which numeral can you see on the green egg? Which number comes before? What about the number after? Are you going to have an egg hunt for Easter? Post us a comment and let us know! |
