We had fun sharing a number rhyme about a hungry rabbit eating some carrots before going up to our school vegetable garden and harvesting a real one! In-between the real carrots, we had planted some laminated ones with numerals and spots on for the children to find . . . Back in the Nursery, we compared the texture and taste of carrots prepared in three different ways - batons, grated and mashed. There was a mixed response to each of these, but most children preferred the grated ones. We made sure that we left some for any more hungry rabbits that might pay us a visit!

To link in with the 'Sooper Frog' logo of the children's charity 'The Harry Johnson Trust', we have had a 'frog' focus to our adult led activities this week! On Thursday when we had our dress up day, instead of Baby Croc introducing our new phonics letter, our frog puppet did it instead - it was the letter 'f'!
On Thursday we held a fancy dress day to raise awareness and money for the wonderful children's charity 'The Harry Johnson Trust'. The logo of the charity is called Sooper Frog and our themes for dressing up were anything green, frog themed or Superheroes. We thought the school pond would be a good spot for our photographs - and of course we kept an eye out for any real 'frogs' that might be visiting! To make a donation the link is www.givey.com/theharryjohnsontrust or you can donate via PayPal 'Friends and Family' to theharryjohnsontrust.com Thank you for your support towards this invaluable charity. After reading 'The Scarecrows' Wedding' we had a go at designing some of our own scarecrows using different shapes! How many different shapes can you recognise?
Which shapes have got four sides and four corners? Can you see a shape with three sides? Perhaps you could create your own 'shape scarecrow' - which shapes would you use? Have fun designing! This week we have been reading one of our Julia Donaldson books . . . We were introduced to the scarecrows Betty O'Barley and Harry O'Hay and followed their adventures as they planned for their perfect wedding - a wedding that no one would ever forget! Have you ever been to a wedding? Sonny enjoyed celebrating when his big brother got married and Ayla told us that her mummy had a beautiful dress. In the story, Betty suggested to Harry that they should make a list and they wrote down all the things that they thought they would need on the day. What would you have written if you were making the list? Post us a comment and let us know! |
