This week we have been sharing another traditional fairytale together - the wonderful story of Cinderella. The children loved seeing the magic glass slipper light up and they listened carefully as they heard the clock chime! We then spent some time designing repeating colour pattern necklaces for Cinderella to wear to the ball . . . This week we have been reflecting on the traditional tales that we have been sharing recently and some of the things that the characters (Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks) had done that led to them not being safe in the story. We then talked about the importance of keeping safe when using the internet. After talking about some of the things that we can do online we read and discussed the story of 'Digiduck and the Magic Castle'. This was followed later in the day by reflecting back on the story, using stick puppets of the characters to help us decide on some safety advice and who we would go to if we needed help or were worried about anything online.
We thought about some of the 'ingredients' for getting along well with our friends and created a 'kinder internet ' spell to help make the internet a kinder and happier place for everyone.
The children suggested the following to add to our spell: *Sharing *Smiley faces *A cuddle *Picking flowers *A heart *Being kind *Playing together What would you add to the spell? We have also shared an online story '#Goldilocks - A Hashtag Cautionary Tale' by Jeanne Willis and Tony Ross. This was not only great for Safer Internet Day, but was also a perfect fit for our current focus on Goldilocks! To help cheer Baby Bear up after Goldilocks had eaten his porridge, broken his chair and slept in his bed, we decided to design some new repeating pattern bed covers for him! Erin - "Red again, blue again"
"It's like different colours, red, blue, red, blue, red . . . now blue next" Which colours would you use to create your repeating pattern? Perhaps you could use different shapes too! When we got back from our walk in the woods, we tucked into our delicious porridge . . . For those that wanted to add them on top, there were also some raisins and sliced banana. Our special guests had a little taste too!
What do you like to have on top of your porridge? Post us a comment and let us know! This week we invited our favourite teddy to come to Nursery and join us for a special party, but before we had anything to eat we went for a walk in the woods . . . Following on from our recent focus on Goldilocks and the Three Bears, everyone kept a look out for Goldilocks, but some of the children also reflected on our Little Red Riding Hood story and decided that we should watch out for the wolf too! After we got back to the Nursery, Fern told us "I saw Goldilocks" and when asked where she had seen her, replied "She was hiding behind a tree . . . eating our porridge!"
Fern then added "My bear saw the big bad wolf!" Isabelle said that she'd spotted him too - "I saw the big bad wolf by the tree" and when asked what he was doing she replied "He took Goldilocks". Asked where he had taken her to, Isabelle said "To prison" before going on to explain "Because she ate all the porridge!" Remember to keep a look out next time you go for a walk in the woods! |
