On Friday we had lots of fun finding out about St George's Day. As well as watching a short video and using some puppets to re-enact what happened, we read a lovely story about a mouse named George who moved in next door to a dragon! Two of the children also dressed up and we had a cuddly dragon to help with our story - then afterwards, the children found a big 'dragon print' on the field . . . They were all very excited!

As part of our new theme we thought it would be fun to set up a 'Flower Pot Cafe' for our role play area! After discussing some initial ideas together, the children chose three items of their own to write down and draw, here is a small selection: Now we are looking forward to setting it up and ordering something to eat and drink!
This half-term we are going to be having a focus on gardens and growing!
The children have been sharing their current understanding of 'plant growth' . . . Emme - "A seed grows into a flower. Daffodils, they're yellow, buttercups, they're yellow as well. They're little and big, daffodils are big and buttercups little". Woody - "You put some soil and then a seed and then you cover the seed with soil and then you water it - it grows! I've got some flowers growing outside in the garden". Evie - You dig a hole, and you put the seed in the hole, and you cover it up and it grows into a vegetable - potatoes, carrots, peas - to make us grow!" Next week we are going to do some planting of our own! This week we have been sharing the children's current knowledge of 'Easter' . . . Ida - "I saw a white tail and two long ears and it was the Easter Bunny!" Marta - "My Bunny bought me chocolate in my garden" Georgie - "The Easter Bunny comes and hides some eggs!" Ethan - "When it's morning you get up and find some Easter eggs". Following this, we watched some video clips to find out more about the origins of Easter and what some people do to celebrate this time of year. Later we had fun sharing a number rhyme about five Easter eggs in a chocolate shop - then afterwards we went for our own Easter egg hunt! We made some delicious chocolate Easter Nests . . . And created some cute handprint Easter Chick cards . . . We would like to wish you all a safe and happy Easter time! As you know we have been having a focus on Mick Inkpen books this term - below is a photograph of our Author Board where we have displayed a record of some of our thoughts and ideas and follow up activities linked to some of the stories . . . Our final two books this term have been the following:
Have you got a favourite Mick Inkpen book? Post us a comment and let us know!
