We have been finding out about St David's Day which will be celebrated on Sunday. After looking closely at some daffodils, the children chose one to create their observational drawings . . . Reggie If you or your family will be celebrating on Sunday, we would love to hear what
you will be doing. Post us a comment and let us know! This week we have been sharing the great story of 'Mr Wolf's Pancakes'! As well as making and eating some delicious pancakes on Shrove Tuesday with orange and lemon juice on the top, we sang a subtraction rhyme about pancakes and then worked out how many would be left in the pan each time after one more had been 'eaten'! With the oranges and lemons that were left over, we created some repeating patterns: We hope you enjoyed your pancakes if you had some. Have you got a favourite topping? Post us a comment and let us know! We have been helping the fairy godmother and have designed some repeating pattern necklaces for Cinderella to wear at the ball! Which colours have been used in this repeating pattern? "Look at this pattern!" Perhaps you could design a necklace for Cinderella too - what would
your colour pattern be? Post us a comment and let us know! As well as the story of Sleeping Beauty this week, we have shared the story of Cinderella too! Before we began reading the book, Bella told us "She lost her shoe" (Then what happened?) "And then she runned away" (Why did she run away?) "Cause she needs to go back home" (What else can you tell us about the story?) "And when she goes back home she isn't a princess, she turns back to Cinderella!"
After we had read the book together, Owen told us "There was a stepmother that made Cinderella clean the floor" and then later on, when another child had told us that the prince had found the shoe, Owen said "He tried it on everyone" (And what happened?) "It didn't fit them" (Why didn't it fit?) "Because it was too small" (So what did he do?) "The last person was Cinderella and it fitted her" (Then what happened?) "He marry her" (And they lived . . . ) "Happily ever after!" Have you got a favourite character in the story? We would love to hear from you - post us a comment and let us know! We have been reflecting back on the traditional tales that we have been sharing recently, and some of the things that the characters have done that led to them
not being safe. When we use the internet, we have to be safe on there too! After talking about some of the different devices that the children might use we shared a special story about Buddy the Dog and how he helped Ben to stay safe when using a tablet and a smartphone - we even learned a great new song to help us remember what to do. Make sure you read the information sheet 'Keeping Your Child Safe on the Internet' which we have displayed in the cloakroom - and let us know if you would like to have a copy. The internet can be a fun and educational tool to explore together, but it is important to make informed choices and to help to keep your child safe, both now and in the future! We have been acting out the story of Sleeping Beauty through the song 'There was a princess long ago' - it was great fun dressing up as the different characters! Afterwards we built some new 'tall towers' for the prince and princess to live
happily ever after in! If you had been one of the good fairies, what gift would you have given to the baby princess? Post us a comment and let us know! Everyone thought it would be fun to try and grow our own beanstalk! We talked about what we would need, and then got to work . . . "Putting compost in the pot" "Putting the bean in the compost" "Water the beanstalk!" Now we are going to be very patient and wait to see what happens.
We hope our beans are magic ones just like the beans in the story! Have you ever grown a beanstalk? We would love to hear about it! We had great fun exploring our own castle and imagined that it was the one belonging to the giant in the story! Which was your favourite character in the story?
Post us a comment and let us know! This week we have been sharing the traditional tale of Jack and the Beanstalk! After we had read the story, Rosie told us "He eated all the food" (Who ate all the food?) "The giant!" (What did he eat?) "The cake, potatoes" (What else did the giant do?) "He chased Jack" (Where did he chase him?) "Home" (Why did the giant chase Jack?) "Cause he was so naughty!" What can you remember about the story? Post us a comment and let us know! Following a number rhyme about 'Five Green Beanstalks', we went outside to hunt for some beanstalk leaves! "Ten!"
When we got back to Nursery we sequenced the leaves to create our new number line. Which number would have been before '10'? What about the number after '10'? There were lots of leaves on the beanstalk in the story - some of the children made their own beanstalk out of play dough. You could do the same at home - how many leaves will your beanstalk have? |
