We have been doing some addition with flowers! The children rolled their dice and then put the corresponding number of flowers
in the hoop. We talked about which hoop had 'more' or 'fewer' flowers in and then counted them to see how many there were altogether. How many flowers can you see in the yellow hoop? What about the red hoop? How many flowers are there altogether?

We have been looking at the famous 'Sunflowers' by Vincent van Gogh . . . The children then selected their choice of media before creating their own interpretation! We think these are wonderful - we hope you do too!
After singing a rhyme about 'five little flowers', we looked at five different flowers and talked about their size prior to sorting them in order from the tallest to the shortest! Between them, the children used lots of different size related
vocabulary including: 'Tall, taller, short, shortest, small, smaller, smallest, medium, little, tiny, teeny-weeny, long, longer, longest, big, bigger, biggest, huge'! How would you have described the size of each flower? This week we have been creating flowers using different shapes! Which shapes have been used for each flower?
Perhaps you could design your own shape flower - which shapes would you use?
We talked about the celebration of Father's day prior to the children creating
their own paper plate faces to represent their dad! This was followed by a special card - the children chose the colour of the 'shirt' and 'tie' then added a fingerprint pattern! We hope you enjoy watching the following . . . Have a very special day together! In preparation for the weekend, we have been thinking and writing about what makes our dad so special. We drew a picture of him too! "He gives me hot chocolate!" What special things would you write about your dad?
Before all the rain set in, we had fun at the start of the week going on imaginary journeys in our cars! Some of us went to the local shops, some to the zoo,
others to the train station and some to the beach! Where would you like to go? Post us a comment and let us know! After we had made sure that we recognised the numbers on our flower, we rolled the dice and coloured in the corresponding section . . . Which numbers are still left to colour? We have also been enjoying singing garden-related rhymes this week - have you got a favourite one? Post us a comment and let us know! We had lots of fun trying to throw our ball into the plant pot - taking a step further back for each turn that we had - there were lots of cheers when we managed to get the ball in! Everyone concentrated really well to try and dribble the ball in and out of the line of plant pots! Perhaps you could try and bounce the ball between them too! After we had sorted our flowers according to their similarities and differences, we created some repeating patterns . . . How would you describe these patterns? Perhaps you could create your own repeating pattern - what would it be?
Let us know! We have been looking at a variety of flowers and talking about their similarities and differences . . . How would you describe these flowers?
After singing our 'If you're happy and you know it song', we used a selection of natural materials to create our own 'happy faces'! Maybe you could have a go at creating a 'happy face' too - have fun! This week we have been welcoming back some of our children that we haven't seen for such a long time! After singing the song 'If you're happy and you know it' we added new verses, talked about what had made the children happy during their time spent at home, and what was making them feel happy now that they were back at Nursery. We also used some percussion instruments - ie. 'If you're happy and you know it shake your shaker' etc. and created a 'happy marching band' - at a safe 2 metre distance from each other! There was lots of fun and laughter as the children had their own ball and hoop to explore - again creating verses for our song - 'If you're happy and you know it bounce your ball' etc. Can you think of some more verses to add to our song? We would love to hear your ideas - post us a comment and let us know what has been making you 'happy' over recent weeks. Alongside trying hard to keep to our 2 metre social distancing, we have been doing lots of frequent hand washing - and counting to twenty! "I'm going to wash my hands cause I've been outside!"
We hope that you are all managing to stay safe and well - take care everyone. |
