When we read 'Kipper's Toybox' last week, we found out that next to Rabbit, Sock Thing was Kipper's favourite toy. This week we have been busy designing and making our own sock and spoon puppets! Do you like Arabella's spoon puppet? She has named it 'Teddy'. Arabella chose to use buttons for the nose and eyes, and some wool for the hair. Can you see what she used for the mouth? This is Charlie's sock puppet - he has named it 'Triceratops the Dinosaur'! Charlie planned to use tissue paper for the eyes and he wanted to "cut paper" for the "sharp teeth"! Do you like the 'stripes' that Charlie created? Perhaps you could design and make your own puppet - we would love to hear about them. Post us a comment and let us know! As we have had some snow this week, we thought this would be a great choice for our next Mick Inkpen book . . . We enjoyed reading about Kipper as he had fun making paw prints and catching swirling snowflakes on his tongue.
Kipper fell backwards into the snow and when he stood up, he found that he had made a perfect Kipper shaped hole! This was George's favourite part of the story and he told us "Kipper was making funny shapes of himself because he was lying down and then he went up again!" Kipper went to tell his friend Tiger about his new game - but when Tiger tried it, he couldn't get back up! Hope demonstrated as she told us "Tiger goes like this - he made a Snow Angel, he couldn't get up when Kipper said 'get up' because he had woolly clothes on him!" We really enjoyed this story and if you get a chance to read it, we hope you enjoy it too. Now we are waiting to see if we get any more snow! A wonderful, wintry, Wellie Wednesday! We had fun making snow castles, playing snow ball games and making snowy foot print trails! Are you hoping for some more snow?
What things do like doing in the snow? The children have loved bringing in their favourite toys to show us this week - as well as talking about them and writing about them, they have produced some wonderful observational art work too! Have you got a favourite toy? Perhaps you could tell us about it - we would love to hear from you. This term we have got a new focus author - we are going to be reading a variety of books written by Mick Inkpen. The first book that we have read is called 'Kipper's Toybox' and as our first mini theme this term is all about toys, we thought this would be a great story to start with! Here are a few of the responses that the children had when we had finished
sharing the book . . . Reuben - "I liked Kipper's toys. Sock Thing nibbled in Kipper's toybox, and the mouses did!" Charlie W - "When we went to grandad's we saw mice upstairs - and it scared nanna!" Oliver D - "The mouse wanted to get out of the sock - cause Kipper grabbed it. It wriggled!" Have you read this lovely story? We would love to hear about your favourite part! We have been exploring our bats, balls and balance buckets - and the children have set themselves some challenges! Here are just a few of the ideas that they had . . . "Bounce the little ball four times!" "Kick the white ball in the air!" Perhaps you could set yourself a challenge - post us a comment and let us know !
This half-term our new Darwin Focus will be 'Bouncebackability' - we hope that the following will help to explain it in a little more detail!
Happy New Year! We have now had our first Wellie Wednesday sessions in 2019! During the Winter months birds can get very hungry. Worms are very difficult to get out of the ground when it is hard and frozen so birds have to manage by finding berries or seeds. We decided to help them by making some special bread cone treats to feed on. We spread lard over the fir cones and then rolled them in bread crumbs and raisins before hanging them in the trees. Next week we’re going to see if the birds have had their tweet treat feast and whether they fly back for more! Have you seen any birds in your garden? Maybe they would like a tweet treat? Congratulations to Matilda and Darius for both being awarded our 'Star of the Week' - the first ones for 2019 - well done!
It has been lovely this week welcoming everybody back after the Christmas break. We have been thinking about the different signs of Winter and how important it is to wrap up warm when we go outside, and to ensure that the birds have plenty of food and water. Do you like our 'hand print' robins that we made for our display? As well as thinking about how we can look after the birds, everyone made an individual
'New Year Promise' that we are all going to help each other to try and keep! Here are just a few examples: "I promise that I am going to . . . share toys with my friends" - Maddie "I promise that I am going to . . . zip my coat up by myself" - Josh "I promise that I am going to . . . be friends and be kind" - Charlie J Have you made any New Year Resolutions? We would love to hear what they are - post us a comment and let us know! |
