We have been having lots of fun acting out the rhyme 'Five Little Monkeys' . . . Five little monkeys swinging in the tree Teasing Mr Crocodile, "You can't catch me!" Along came Mr Crocodile as quietly as can be And SNAP! went the crocodile, then there were . . . Our monkeys are all muddled up - can you put them in the correct numerical order?
Remember to watch out for the crocodile!

This week we have introduced our new theme with a look at some paintings by Rousseau and sharing the children's ideas of what it might be like to walk through a jungle. There were suggestions of the different animals that might be seen - along with a few sound effects and actions! Margaux told us "Jungles are scary and I think I like tigers and I'd like to ride one but they might bite me and there might be cheetahs and pelicans and if you see one I might be scared". She then went on to tell us "Monkeys live in the jungle and I might see one that's lovely and I might want to play with one because they're so cheeky, but they're too fast for me!" Conor shared his knowledge with us and said "Tigers live in there and snakes and bats" and as we discussed how he might feel, he told us that he "Might feel a bit nervous - because of the carnivores like lions and tigers". Conor went on to explain what a carnivore is - "It's a predator that eats meat". A little later, Conor also told us "The snakes might squeeze you like boa constrictors and pythons" before adding "And rattlesnakes - rattlesnakes bite you with their quick speed" before concluding with "And herbivores eat plants"!
Back in March the children in school were invited to enter a competition to help design a special flag to celebrate the return to the River Severn of the rare migratory fish, the twaite shad. The flag will feature a shoal of 10 shad - one for each of the towns along the River Severn that the shad once swam through on their epic spawning migration. We were delighted to hear on Monday that following over 1000 entries from school children attending schools near the River Severn, two designs from children at Greenfields have been selected to feature on the commemorative flag, including one from our own Little Conkers! We would like to say a huge 'well done' to both children and are now looking forward to seeing the final design of the flag when it is published on 1 May - the official start of the May Fish Migration Season. The flag will be raised annually alongside the River River Severn to show when the May Fish are back. Congratulations - we are very proud of you both.
We had fun acting out a number rhyme all about five Easter Eggs in a chocolate shop before going outside to help the Easter Bunny find some more eggs that had been hidden in our sensory garden! On behalf of everyone at Little Conkers we would like to wish you all a very Happy Easter! We have been taking a look to see how our sunflower seeds are getting on . . . We are now looking forward to seeing what other changes take place over the
next couple of weeks - what do you think will happen next? The children have enjoyed making and decorating some Easter biscuits to take home for a special treat! Which biscuit would you have eaten first, the rabbit or the egg? As part of our focus on Easter this week, the children have been using the technique of marble rolling to create a colourful Easter Bunny! They have also chosen from a range of media for their grass. We think that they look great - we hope you do too! This week we have been finding out about Easter and some of the children used an activity on the computer to have a go at designing their own colourful pattern to decorate an egg. When he sat down to have his turn, Dylan exclaimed "I'm so excited about decorating the egg!". As we scrolled through the available colours to use he commented "I want red cause it's my favourite colour" then a little later added "I choosing yellow". Towards the end of his design, Dylan said "The other pink please . . . I'm so excited to see what it does!". Once happy with his egg, Dylan announced "There, I done!". Here are some of the other fabulous designs . . . Which colours would you have chosen? Post us a comment and let us know! |
