Back in March the children in school were invited to enter a competition to help design a special flag to celebrate the return to the River Severn of the rare migratory fish, the twaite shad. The flag will feature a shoal of 10 shad - one for each of the towns along the River Severn that the shad once swam through on their epic spawning migration. We were delighted to hear on Monday that following over 1000 entries from school children attending schools near the River Severn, two designs from children at Greenfields have been selected to feature on the commemorative flag, including one from our own Little Conkers! We would like to say a huge 'well done' to both children and are now looking forward to seeing the final design of the flag when it is published on 1 May - the official start of the May Fish Migration Season. The flag will be raised annually alongside the River River Severn to show when the May Fish are back. Congratulations - we are very proud of you both.
