This week we have been sharing the story of 'Room on the Broom' written by Julia Donaldson As we looked at the front cover, Jess told us "I know what happens" before going on to say "The witch's broom goes into the clouds and then the dragon tries to eat her!". As we read the book we paused at various points and discussed what was happening and when asked why the broom might have snapped in two, Jess suggested "Because there were too many on". We also looked at who we could see under the mud and Jess said "I can spot somebody . . . the cat!". Towards the end of the book, we thought about what the witch might have created with her spell and Jess informed us "It's a broom with something for the cat and the dog and a seat for the witch and a shower for the frog"! Farrah also enjoyed sharing the story with us, pointing out where the wand was falling - "There, down to the pond" and predicting who the witch might meet - "The dragon" before going on to describe him "Red . . . he blows out fire!", Farrah even included a demonstration! When the children were asked what they thought the dragon would do, Farrah laughed as she replied "Eat the witch!". Towards the end of the story as we looked at the illustration Farrah told us "I can spot the bird". We enjoyed watching and listening to the song version of the story too. The children would love to hear about your favourite character from the book - post us a comment and let us know!
