Inspired by planting our seeds, we have been decorating sunflower heads for the front of our Mother's Day cards. We dripped some paint in the style of Jackson Pollock . . . As it will be a while before our sunflowers have grown, we have included some lovely daffodils with our cards to enjoy for now! We hope that you all have a lovely day and are able to share it with someone special.

This week Puppet John had been exploring outside when he found something exciting but he didn't know what they were. He brought them in to show the children and asked if they could help him. Everyone took a look and between them they decided that they were sunflower seeds and agreed to help Puppet John to plant them - but first they made some predictions! Everyone took a turn to scoop some compost into their pot and then push down a sunflower seed in the middle before covering it up and adding some water. We are now going to look after our seeds, keeping them warm and watered, and along with Puppet John are looking forward to watching the changes taking place in the weeks ahead! After making their predictions and planting the seeds, the children worked together to label the different parts of a sunflower before sharing their ideas to create a collaborative poem. We hope that you have enjoyed reading it! On Wednesday, First News organised a 'Ukraine Day' in aid of the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) and the children came to school dressed in blue and yellow to help raise funds to support those in Ukraine. They have also been decorating orange hearts in readiness for a 'Show Your Heart' campaign (#showyourheart) being organised by Together with Refugees (#togetherwithrefugees) and Shropshire Supports Refugees (#shropshiresupportsrefugees) for a national awareness day to enable people across the UK to convey their passion & solidarity with the situation of refugees displaced from their home by conflict and wars around the world. On Thursday it was St Patrick's Day and as well as finding out about the patron saint of Ireland and some of the traditions associated with the celebrations, the children worked together to decorate our own green shamrock to add to our Nursery Celebrations board! This week we have also been finding out about the Hindu festival of Holi which began on Friday and celebrates the arrival of spring flowers and when the main crops are almost ready for the spring harvest. We watched a video of some children that were taking part in some Bollywood style dancing as part of their celebrations prior to us going out onto the school field and having a go ourselves! Holi is also known as the Festival of Colour and we each had a scarf to dance with around our colourful parachute alongside our beautiful yellow daffodils! We finished the week with the children coming to school dressed either as a superhero or in a funny outfit to make someone laugh in support of this year's Comic Relief Day! Thank you so much for all your generous donations this week, your continued support is greatly appreciated. This week we have been sharing different versions of 'Noah's Ark' and the children have had lots of fun exploring different ways of moving around as some of the animals along with creating high and low pitched vocal sounds. The mice were making quick scampering movements, the lions walked on all fours with their heads held proudly, the monkeys moved on their feet with arms above their heads as if swinging from branch to branch, and the bears walked slowly with heavy feet. There was a lot of screeching, squeaking, roaring and growling too! Following on from our lovely walk in the spring sunshine to see our beautiful daffodils, we introduced our 'Big Feeling' for the remainder of the term, which is 'Happiness'. Combining the two, the children have all contributed to our collaborative creations for our daffodil inspired 'Happiness Art'! We have displayed one within the Nursery and the other one is going to Lymehurst Residential Home along with collaborative 'Happiness' pieces from the other classes within school - we hope that they will like them!
It was lovely to see all the children arriving in their fantastic costumes for World Book Day! Do you recognise these popular characters? The children are also taking part in a sponsored 'Read for Good Readathon' with the money that they raise being used to help buy books for children in hospital as well as for our school library.
Happy reading everyone! On Tuesday we found out about St David's day - and talked about it also being the first day of Spring. St David is the patron saint of Wales and to celebrate the day, traditional festivities include wearing daffodils or leeks as well as eating traditional Welsh food including cawl and Welsh cakes and attending parades where traditional Welsh costumes are worn. We went for a walk in the spring sunshine to see all of our own beautiful daffodils! "There are loads! How did they all grow?" "I like daffodils, do you like daffodils?" Did you or someone you know celebrate St David's Day?
We would love to hear what you did - post us a comment and let us know! |
