To finish off our Arts Week theme, the children decided whether to create a 'butterfly' or a 'flower' using some of the natural materials that we had collected . . . They also chose which colour card to display their masterpiece on!

Continuing with our focus on 'The Great Outdoors', the children took turns to select from the range of natural materials we had collected to add to our 'wonderful weaving' on our frame made from sticks and wool . . . We think that the finished result looks great - we hope you do too! The children also selected from the variety of natural materials that they had collected to carefully press into their clay butterflies and flower heads to create pretty patterns! Can you work out which natural materials they have used?
The school's 'Arts Week' for this year has had the theme of 'The Great Outdoors'. We went for a walk in the sunshine to collect a variety of natural materials from around the school grounds, these included leaves, grasses and petals. The children then selected from these to decorate their butterfly and flower head templates: Not only did they look great, but they smelled nice too! We have been talking about how special our daddy's are and why we love them so much . . . Have a fantastic Father's Day - we hope that you all liked your cards and gifts!
We have been enjoying watching our plants as they continue to grow - and this week we decided that they were now ready to go outside! The children looked carefully at their group's plants before they were re-potted and then considered what they might look like in a few weeks . . . Now we are waiting to see which group will grow the tallest sunflower!
As well as our new Darwin focus, we also have a new 'Big Feeling' for this half-term - 'disgust'! After reading the story together, we reflected on the delicious healthy food that we have in our Flower Pot Cafe and then tried to think of some alternatives, using 'disgusting' ingredients instead! The children had lots of fun and came up with some very inventive dishes, including the following three below: Can you think of any other 'disgusting' ingredients?
What would you name the dishes that you'd create with them? Post us a comment and let us know! We have been introducing our new 'Darwin' focus for this half-term - 'selfhelpability'! The children thought about how they have changed since starting at Nursery, and chose something that they are proud of that they can now do, something that they are still trying to do, and what they could do in order to help themselves achieve this goal. Below are just a few examples of their responses: Woody told us that she was proud of being able to 'cut a piece of paper with scissors' and was trying hard to 'do up her own buttons'. In order to help herself, Woody said she could 'keep trying to do it'! Ethan told his group that he was proud that he could 'write his name' and was still trying hard to 'write a k'. In order to try and help himself, Ethan suggested he could 'copy over yellow' until he 'can do it'! Abbie was very proud of being able to 'do a lovely picture' for her daddy, and she said that she was still trying hard to 'scoot on the Paw Patrol scooter' and that to help herself she could 'put her feet up and down' so that she could 'move forwards'! How are you going to show 'selfhelpability'?
