To celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in school, each year group looked at a particular decade that the Queen has been on the throne. The children were invited to dress as a person from their allocated decade and we chose a song to sing for everyone. Our focus was the 2010's so we chose 'Happy' by Pharrell Williams - as we hope that we have a very 'happy' Nursery! The school also purchased a mini mug for each child to decorate and they were given a lovely bookmark to commemorate this special event. We concluded our celebrations by all singing the National Anthem - God Save the Queen. We hope that you will be able to spend time with family and friends and that you all enjoy your own special Jubilee celebrations - take care everyone and we will see you after the half-term break!

As part of our Platinum Jubilee celebrations this week, the children have been busy creating a new crown for Her Majesty! Initially everyone chose which colours they would like to use to colour in the pre-drawn picture of a crown. Some of the children then went on to select from a range of resources to carefully pick up and position on the sparkly crown in their own design.
Perhaps you could design a new crown too! A few weeks ago we discovered that over the weekend, a new nest had been built in our Nursery courtyard - and before long there were five little eggs inside! We have been patiently watching and waiting - then last Friday (20th May) after school our new little friends emerged from their eggs! Over the last few days, after making sure that the proud parents were out of sight, we have been taking a quick photograph to track the growth of our delightful new arrivals. As you can see, there have been so many changes taking place in the space of a week. We feel very honoured that the proud parents chose our Nursery for their little ones! As part of our jungle focus, we have created a new role play area - Toucan's Tea Shop! Before we set it up, we thought about what we might need to include: Now we are having a great time popping in for a visit - sometimes with a jungle friend!
We have been enjoying sharing these animal related rhyming books . . . Afterwards we talked about some of the different animals . . . Emily told us about the snake first - "It wriggles and it hangs on the tree" and then the giraffe - "It's got a long neck". Margaux went on to say "It can reach leaves in the tree". Fern talked about the elephant - "It has a long trunk" and Zena then said "An elephant squirts water with it's trunk". Eddie told us that "The lions roar" before Barney said "They are fierce!". Margaux then added "The lion leaps". What would you have told us about the different animals? Post us a comment and let us know! |
