This term we are going to be sharing some of the wonderful books written by the author Julia Donaldson. There were a lot of smiles when we showed the children each book in turn, as many recognised them from their own books at home and told us what they could remember from the story . . . "Monkey Puzzle book! I've lost my mum - Butterfly don't joke, my mummy is not slimy, she's soft and nice to cuddle!" We have been reading 'Monkey Puzzle' this week, and here are just a couple of the children's thoughts from when we discussed the story afterwards . . .
Woody - "He lost his mummy and he found a butterfly" (I wonder how he was feeling when he lost his mummy?) "Maybe he be sad?" (Yes, I think he would be feeling very sad, what happened next?) "He found a snake sssssss!" (Which other animals did they find?) "He found a spider" (And what was the spider doing?) "Slipping up his thread, climbing up" (Then what happened?) "He found his mummy and daddy" (How do you think he felt then?) "Happy!" Ethan - "He couldn't find his mum" (So what happened?) "He said no, no, no!" (Why did he say that?) "The animals" (Which animals did he find?) "Caterpillars and a snake and elephant and frog and spider" (What happened at the end?) "He found his mum" (How do you think he felt when he found his mum?) "Much better!" We hope you like this book as much as we did when we read it together. Perhaps you have a favourite animal that Butterfly found? Post us a comment and let us know!
